CONFERENCE
This extraordinary evening will bring together two distinguished university choirs in a musical tribute that bridges nations and generations. The Vilnius University Choir "Pro Musica" (artistic director Rasa Gelgotiene) will visit Riga to honor Konstantinas Čiurlionis, returning the warm hospitality of the University of Latvia Alumni Choir "Jubilate" (artistic director Juris Kļaviņš), which performed in Vilnius last year.
Audiences will be treated to a captivating selection of Čiurlionis’ choral works, including Gloria and Sanctus, alongside enchanting Lithuanian folk song arrangements. Meanwhile, Jubilate will pay tribute to Emīls Dārziņš, performing his beloved compositions that have shaped Latvia’s musical legacy.
Adding to this unique cultural exchange, the concert’s theme—"Meeting in Riga"—extends beyond the Baltic borders. The program will also feature the majestic choral work Via Crucis by Hungarian composer Ferenc Liszt, performed by both choirs together with soloists and organ accompaniment. The renowned Edīte Alpe will perform on the organ, and the evening will be introduced by Aivars Smuidris, pastor of St. Martin’s Church in Riga. Ilze Dzērve will serve as concertmaster.
