The mixed choir "Aura" of the University of Latvia began its journey in 2004, having originally formed as the teachers' choir of the Riga Center Humanities Secondary School. Today "Aura" unites around 70 talented singers from across Latvia. The choir is under the artistic direction and conductorship of Edgars Vitols, with Lauma Eglite and Emils Rusovs serving as choirmasters.
The Mixed Choir "Aura" of the University of Latvia consistently demonstrates its artistic and musical excellence through various local and international competitions and concerts. The choir has been a regular participant in the Nationwide Latvian Song and Dance Festival and the Baltic students' Song and Dance festival "Gaudeamus." It has also achieved remarkable success in international competitions, such as the 8th World Choir Olympiad and the 3rd European Choir Olympiad in Riga, as well as in contests and concerts throughout Germany, Austria, Malta, the Czech Republic, Spain, the USA, and more, often returning home with top prizes and gold diplomas.
Embracing their creativity, "Aura" has performed at the music festival "Laba daba" and even ventured into dance performances. The choir enjoys collaborating with various academic and popular music professionals, including soloists Daumants Kalnins and Ance Krauze, and composers Ilze Arne, Raimonds Pauls, and Raimonds Tiguls.
