Women's choir "Latve" of the University of Latvia (UL) was founded in 1987 at the Faculty of Pedagogy, Psychology, and Arts. The idea of this choir came from the first dean of the faculty, Gunars Gulbis. The current and upcoming teachers, as well as graduates of the faculty, have always sung in it. From the very beginning, the choir has been led by conductor and music teacher Mg. sc. educ. Ilze Feldmane.
The choir's repertoire includes classical compositions for women's choirs by both Latvian and foreign composers, as well as arrangements of folk songs and contemporary music. The collective is constantly seeking new challenges and opportunities to diversify its repertoire. It actively participates not only in events organized by the University of Latvia but also in the National musical life, including Church Night concerts, and cooperations with various Latvian choir ensembles. Since its foundation, the choir has participated in all Latvian Song and Dance Festivals and the Baltic Students' Song and Dance Festival "Gaudeamus." The voices of the "Latve" choir have been heard in many places in Europe, representing the name of UL and Latvia excellently, and even winning prizes in various international choir competitions.
